Knights

The Newcastle Knights were established in 1988, joining the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition that same year.

The Knights have secured Premierships in the following years:

• 1997
• 2001

Their most recent Premiership victory was in 2001, where they defeated the Parramatta Eels 30–24. 

Founded in 1988, the Newcastle Knights were established to represent the Newcastle and Hunter regions in top-tier rugby league. The club quickly built a strong following, known for its passionate fan base and community support. The Knights achieved their first Premiership in 1997, defeating the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in a memorable grand final. They secured their second Premiership in 2001 against the Parramatta Eels. Over the years, the club has produced several notable players, including Andrew Johns, who is considered one of the greatest rugby league players of all time. The Knights continue to be a significant presence in the NRL, with a rich history and a dedicated supporter base. 

The Knights' home ground is McDonald Jones Stadium, located at 294 Turton Road, New Lambton, New South Wales.

McDonald Jones Stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 33,000 spectators.

The team's mascot, "Knytro the Knight," is a nod to Newcastle’s ‘steel city’ heritage, as knights are known for their steel armour. It also symbolises qualities such as bravery and strength. The red and blue colours were chosen to reflect the traditional sporting colours of the Newcastle region, symbolising the club's deep connection to its local community.
